Bio:
In the fall of 2023 I had a moment of crisis. I had been accepted to dental school and was set to start at the beginning of September, but even a few days before school started I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go. It just seemed like a huge risk to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars (literally) and the last four years of my 20s into a career I didn’t know if I would like and I didn’t know if I would be good at.
What if my calling in life is to be a performance psychologist? An adventure photographer/ videographer? Oral surgeon? Musician? Entrepernuer? Humanitarian? Teacher? Traveler? Athlete? (am I young enough for that to still be an option?) I don’t want to spend four years only investing in one potential career only to find out later that it isn’t really my thing. I decided to go to school so I’m betting on my future as a successful dentist/ dental specialist. But I’m not leaving it up to chance.
This website and whatever stems from it will be my expedition into things that interest me… which may stay as hobbies or may blossom into careers of their own. I’m not sure where this thread of curiosity will take me, but there are a few North Star principles I’m setting at the start. First and probably most important is that I have to be authentic to myself. Even if everything I do while pursuing my curiosity turns out to be a disaster, I want to be able to say that I was authentic to who I am and that I lived according to what I thought would genuinely make me happy.
My second North Star principle is purpose. Out of the hundreds of hours of self-help and business material that I’ve read, one thing has become glaringly obvious to me. If you only chase money then you’ll never have enough. But if you chase purpose, then you’ll at least be fulfilled and the money often takes care of its self. So what is my purpose? Well, just like my career, I’m not completely sure, but I have two guesses to act on: 1) To help people live healthier lives via technology. 2) To teach people not to fear what they can’t control, and how to master what they can. Am I a technology guru, or a fearless savant? No way. But these are purposes that seem very engaging to me, and I have a lot of years ahead of me to figure it out.
